Composer, vocalist, music director and interdisciplinary artist Tariq Al-Sabir moves fluidly between experimental soul, electronic music, improvisation, theatre and film. Originally from Baltimore and now based in New York, his work has taken in collaborations with artists including Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange, Meredith Monk, Hilary Hahn and Ali Sethi, as well as a memorable connection to The Wire, for which he provided vocals on the 2006 theme. His 2024 EP Unlike Yesterday Today I’m Ready, produced by Dev Hynes, distilled these wide-ranging interests into a richly atmospheric form of experimental R&B. At RALLY, Al-Sabir brings that same instinct for crossing boundaries to the Agnes stage, setting an exploratory tone for the day.
